Prior Learning Assessment
Obtain
course credits towards a college diploma or university degree using
life experiences and workplace skills

What is PLA?
Prior Learning Assessment enables you to gain recognition and credit
for what you already know and can do. In today's work place, employees
are constantly learning new skills. Through work-related experience
and those gained through life, candidates may receive course credits
and accelerate their achievement of a college diploma.
Rather than repeat what you have already learned, wouldn't it be
better to be able to go directly to what you still need to learn
to reach your career and educational goals? That is exactly what
Prior Learning Assessment ( PLA - sometimes called PLAR - Prior
Learning Assessment and Recognition ) is all about. Prior Learning
Assessment is a process that uses a variety of tools to help learners
reflect on, articulate, and demonstrate past learning that has been
acquired through study, work, and life experience but has not been
recognized through a formal transfer of academic credits. Prior
Learning Assessment allows the evaluation of past learning against
established academic standards so that credit can be awarded in
one of Willis College's diplomas or used towards the University
of Winnipeg's programs taught here.
In today's fast-paced world, we seem to have little time to plan
our careers and lives. Prior Learning Assessment helps you focus
on your accomplishments and plan toward personal and professional
goals. Prior Learning Assessment can also be an effective job-search
tool, helping you to identify your work-related skills and knowledge
and plan your career.
