Willis College, Unique and Distinct

Amongst all institutions - educational, commercial, and industrial - there is usually one that is outstanding. When it comes to colleges of business & technology, the one that stands out, as truly "Unique," is the Willis College of Business & Technology of Ottawa.

In this special Millennium commemorative edition, brief mention will be made to some of the distinguishing characteristics that have placed this splendid College in the commanding position it occupies amongst educational institutions today and which attracts a select patronage, nation-wide.

Photo of Willis College in the late 1800'sWhen its doors first opened in 1896, Willis Business College quickly secured a reputation as a "quality adult educational training" provider dedicated to serving the community and committed to training excellence. Under the leadership of Stephen T. Willis, the College specialized in secretarial and business courses. Back in 1896, manual typewriters lined the classrooms of Willis Business College, where men and women from throughout the Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec Regions were taught the necessary skills of the day: typing, shorthand, dictation, filing, general office duties and business methods and practices.
